Dr Richard Fieldhouse qualified as a GP in 1995, and was immediately struck by the professional isolation faced by freelance GPs. He soon found many other GPs in exactly the same position, and with their help set up the National Association of Sessional GPs, creating an independent body that secured access to the NHS pension scheme and a professional identity. He also started the UK’s first freelance GP chambers. Recently, Dr Fieldhouse has developed a large-scale online information sharing and GP booking platform for general practice called Practeus. He’s been a GP locum for 20 years, has worked in 100 different GP practices and is a clinical lead in a large CCG.
