Joanne Townsend trained in Leicester in 1992. She went on to specialise in urogynaecology working for 12 years at University Hospitals of Leicester covering both primary and secondary care.
During 2010-2015 she took up the post of clinical lead for Oxfordshire Foundation Trust bladder and bowel services, before leaving the NHS.
Ms Townsend contributed to the NICE guidelines on female urinary incontinence in 2006, and has worked on a number of other guideline reviews. She represented nursing for the International Continence Society Nursing Committee during 2007-2010, and was key in the development of the UK School of Urodynamics project to establish universal standards for urodynamic training, practice and accreditation.
Ms Townsend has been involved in medical negligence cases for bladder and bowel injuries for the past seven years. She currently works for Wellspect Healthcare, however today’s presentation is completely independent from the company.
