Professor Raj Thakkar

GP Partner, primary care lead of Oxford AHSN, honorary visiting professor at Cardiff University Medical School and president of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society

Professor Raj Thakkar’s roles include GP partner, primary care cardiology lead for the Oxford Health Innovation Network and member of the national cardiac transformation programme (NHSE). He is also on the national EAGs for lipids, heart attack and heart failure. Raj is president of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society, honorary visiting professor at Cardiff University Medical School, head of medical external engagement and innovation for AstraZeneca, and UK medical director for Healthy.io. Previous roles have included clinical commissioning director for Bucks CCG/BOB ICB in planned care and cardiac lead for the TVSCN. 

Raj has worked as a presenter on BBC Radio and is a medical writer, speaker, and adviser. He has published over 200 articles and several books including the MIMS consultation guide which won the BMA book of the year. He has achieved two AF pioneer awards, was a national finalist for GP of the year in 2017 and a national HSJ finalist.
