Rachel Wood qualified from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2006 following a BSc (Hons) degree in dietetics. She worked in adult dietetics for almost 5 years covering a variety of specialities: mainly critical care and parenteral nutrition.
For the last 9 years Rachel has gained vast experience at two large tertiary children’s hospitals: Sheffield and Manchester. She gained a highly specialist role at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital leading the Allergy and Gastroenterology services where she has worked for 7 years. Rachel developed the allergy service and pathways as part of the North West network and has been heavily involved in training and education of other health professionals on the management of cow’s milk allergy. She has lectured for the RCGP and is on the Faculty for the Royal College of Paediatric Child Health for delivering their allergy modules. She is also on the Education Committee at BSPGHAN where she aim to improve teaching for AHPs and Associates
Rachel has written the nutrition chapter in the first edition of Learning to Care for nursing associates. She leads the intestinal failure/home parenteral nutrition service at Royal Manchester Children’s hospital and is the dietitian on the BSPGHAN Intestinal Failure Nutrition working group where she is developing national guidelines.
Rachel recently set up her business, RW Dietetics, to provide support and advice for parents, families and health professionals on nutrition and dietetics in paediatrics.
