Dr Hina Shahid
Dr Hina J Shahid is a GP in London and Chair of the Muslim Doctors Association, a non-profit organisation working to reduce health inequities affecting marginalised and minority communities in the UK. She also holds an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where her dissertation was part of a UN project analysing the socioeconomic determinants of chronic disease outcomes among refugee populations in Lebanon. She has worked in a number of research, teaching and humanitarian roles in Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. In the UK her work focuses primarily on community engagement, advocacy and policy reform through an intersectional lens to address the multiple structural barriers to health and care affecting marginalised communities, drawing on her insights, experiences and lessons learnt from over 10 years working with and supporting third sector health and human rights organisations. She is an advocate of equitable, rights-based integrated care models that centre people’s lived experiences and contexts.
